I am a semi-retired scientist, originally from the USA, who has lived for many years in New Zealand. I have been interested in photography since childhood, and have become increasingly dedicated to it in recent years. I am most interested and specialize in environmental portraiture, landscapes, and fine art nudes.
The nude figure evokes a deep emotional response in me, leading to a sense of wonder and humility. My art seeks to explore this emotion, and to share it with those of like vision.
Most of my work seeks to strike an emotional resonance in the viewer. Many of the works are nude portraits. I seek to evoke a feeling of identification with the subject, and a glimpse into her character, personality, and emotions. Her nudity heightens our identification with those emotions, evokes tender associations, and sets the image apart from ordinary portraits, drawing us to explore further.
Some work is formal, and not so personal. I seek to capture the beauty of the lines, form, shading, and texture of a woman's body, complemented by light and/or her environment, exhibiting a combination of beauty, grace, strength, and elegance.
A few of my best images are allegorical, in which the woman portrays something larger than herself. The following quote inspired me, and suggested the name “Aspiring Imagery”:
"Nude allegories express the desirable and the good ... because we cast our aspirations in images that transcend the limits of what we known and live"*
